Description

Located in the idyllic and historic Las Alpujarras in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Spain.

Staying at the "Hooting Owl" is the ideal way to enjoy the natural surroundings. With shady forests, olive groves, natural springs, an abundance of birds and wild life, the site is full of adventure and has something for everyone.

Sleeping in a beautiful yurt means comfortable nights while still living close to nature. The yurts are arranged and furnished for your comfort. Each yurt has its own private space to enjoy the sun, or sit in the shade while you enjoy the splendid views and chill out.

The sound of the river trickling by, the birds singing and the sound of the gentle sway of the poplar trees is the backdrop to the peaceful and relaxing environment.

    A Myriad of Birds

Birdwatchers will be impressed by the diversity of birds residing in Las Alpujarras, including the Scops owl which can be heard each evening. Many other species of owls, eagles, and hawks are frequently spotted; among the other birds that can be observed are Hoopoes, Bee Eaters, Golden Orioles, Golden Eagles, Goshawks, Kingfishers, herons, buzzards, finches, rock doves, roller, raven, quails, common cuckoos, house martins, and many varieties of swifts.  For a full list click here.

    Wild Animals

For those with a keen interest in wildlife, the area is a natural habitat for foxes, wild deer, ibex, wild cats and wild boar. However, these animals are rarely seen, and are not known to interfere with human activity or disturb the facilities.

    Extensive Flora

The amateur botanist will enjoy observing the great variety of flowering plants and wild herbs throughout the finca. Each distinct microclimate, from the verdant riverbank to the craggy mountainside, promises the discovery of uncommon plants and insects. With plentiful water from a nearby spring, the land is always lush and green.

    The Weather

March & April are generally dry months with clear days and cool nights. However, there are occasional storms which bring heavy and prolonged rains.  If you want to guarantee blue skies, we recommend visiting later in the Spring season when it will be very warm both day and night.  June, July & August are hot with cooler nights for easy sleeping.  September and October can bring showers but are generally dry and sunny.
