Description
Luwawa Forest Lodge specialises in outdoor adventure activities. The Lodge is located in the forested mountains of northern Malawi, in the beautiful Luwawa valley overlooking Luwawa Dam.
The highlands of Malawi are cool, malaria free and often protected areas where you have wonderful views, plentiful wildlife and varied habitat. The combination of mountainous landscapes and lakes merged with the colours and scenery of Africa make Malawi a wonderful holiday experience.
Lake Malawi "the lake of stars" comprises about a fifth of the country's land mass, and stretches through most of its Eastern borders The Lake is fresh water and has around 700 - 800 species of fish found nowhere else in the world. With long stretches of golden beaches, and Lake Malawi's pristine, clear water, a stay at our beautifully-set Lodge goes hand in hand with an African safari and adventure vacation.
We offer Rock climbing and Abseiling; Hiking trails; Mountain biking; Canoeing; Fishing; Orienteering; 4WD training; Corporate Teambuilding; and Community Development projects with the local village people.
We have a range of accommodations at different price levels from luxury en-suite chalets to bunkhouse accommodation and camping. Most of our energy is from solar power and the vegetables served in our resturant are from our permaculture garden.
We work with the local indigenous communities around the Lodge and have set up many income generating acivities, such as the Donija Nkoma Cultural village, from which local people benefit directly.
Through assistance from people visiting the Lodge and the local communities we are now helping five local primary schools with building development work.
The Luwawa Forest Lodge has been awarded the Malawi Government's Ministerial Award, 2008, for "community development work and sustainable tourism".
