Description

The Old Rectory is a large 19th Century country house, in a prime location, surrounded by 20 acres of landscaped gardens and pastures, and overlooking miles of the undisturbed North Devon countryside.

A building dating from 1800 with a comtemporary twist, this quiet and secluded property sleeps 22. There are 8 comfortable and stylish rooms in the Main House and 3 in the Courtyard. The beds are furnished with organic cotton sheets and the bathrooms offer earth-friendly products.  Most of the house is run on solar power..

The property retains many of its original features, including a Grade II listed Victorian grotto nestled inside the walls, underneath the limestone balustrades. Recent additions include courtyard accommodation, a dance barn with an entertainment room, a gym, salt water swimming pool and a tennis court.

From the rear of the house, the patio opens up onto a large lawn, which lends itself perfectly to garden parties. From the tiered gardens, with views of pastures and countryside rolling into the distance, step down the split stairway into the lavender gardens and discover, tucked away under the stone stairs, the Grade II listed Victorian grotto, which is licensed for weddings. Over its arches hang draped Jasmine, Clematis and Ivy, and the sound of running water from the fountain, softly echoing in the grotto, is set beautifully against the backdrop of the lavender gardens and Devonshire countryside.

Over on the other side of The Old Rectory grounds, it is a short walk from the house to the dance barn and courtyard accommodation. Follow the path through the trees and discover the secluded treehouse for children. Beyond is a walled garden overlooking the greenhouse, nurturing organic home-grown produce.

The Old Rectory is a wonderful venue for house parties and celebrations. With a large array of function facilities, guests have the choice of using the Dance Barn or setting up a marquee in the garden. For smaller gatherings, the dining room can host intimate dinner parties or drinks receptions. The house is completely private, with high walls and large gated entrance which provides an ideal discreet venue for a quiet celebrity retreat. The owners are used to high profile individuals using the property and respect guests privacy.

The Old Rectory is a perfect choice for residential weekend workshops, or five-day courses. It has a number of spaces around the property that are ideal for meetings, retreats, detoxing, pilates and yoga classes. Massage therapists and personal trainers are available on request.

The Old Rectory is licensed to perform wedding ceremonies in various locations within the premises; including the romantic Grade II listed Victorian grotto, the Dance Barn, the south facing Drawing Room and the beautiful wood carved staircase in the main house.

Wedding receptions can be hosted in various locations across the premises depending on size of party. The Dance Barn seats up to 60 people and has a part-covered terrace, ideal for a drinks reception.

The upper lawns by the main house can accommodate a small marquee, ideal for small gatherings of up to 60 people. The main croquet lawn can comfortably accommodate a large marquee which can seat up to 170 people, with room to host a drinks reception on the lawn outside.(For more information on marquees and capacity, please enquire below.)

Conferences and executive meetings for up to 60 delegates can be held in the Dance Barn and up to 22 delegates in the main dining room. The Old Rectory can provide wholesome food for all tastes and diets, with delicious menus using local produce where possible, for lunch, dinner or afternoon tea.

The Dance Barn provides a modern space, ideal for business workshops and conferences. With Wi-fi access and additional presentation resources on request.
